Description
Kedarnath is one of the most revered Hindu pilgrimage sites in India, located in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand at an altitude of about 3,583 meters (11,755 feet) above sea level. It is home to the famous Kedarnath Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva and considered one of the twelve sacred Jyotirlingas — divine manifestations of Shiva worshipped across India. The temple holds immense spiritual and mythological significance. According to legend, the Pandava brothers from the epic Mahabharata sought Shiva’s forgiveness here after the great war, and Shiva appeared in the form of a bull — with his hump remaining at the site, where the temple now stands. Kedarnath is also part of the Char Dham and Panch Kedar pilgrimage circuits, attracting millions of devotees every year who undertake a challenging trek from Gaurikund through breathtaking Himalayan terrain.
